Theoretical approach
Joy offers an effective therapy called Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). It is a type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that teaches individuals skills to cope with, and change, unhealthy behaviors, and to alleviate stress and regulate their emotions. Mindfulness is one of the essential core skills in DBT. Clients engaging in DBT often come out seeing a more positive outlook on life and finding it easier to cope with their challenges and problems thanks to the skills and support.

In addition to DBT, Joy also uses an integrated approach including solution-focused, Trauma-informed, person-centered, and cognitive behavioral, depending on her client's needs. Thanks to her multicultural background, she is culturally sensitive and aware. She does her best to consider the cultural aspect in therapy as she believes that cultural competency in a therapist is another contributing factor to change in a client's life.
